Fran Kranz + Funny Faces = Freaking Cute

Fran Kranz is now on "Dollhouse" with Eliza Dushku, but these caps from some short-lived CBS show are really attractive. Even with his tendency to make funny faces. :)

Mary Katrantzou - London Fashion Week

Mary Katrantzou's big debut at London Fashion Week was full of buzz. Her perfume bottle prints were stunning and fresh, which is big praise in London, where every other young designer sees themselves as the next Johnathan Saunders. Can't wait to see more from her.

Thanks to a nearly 4x increase in traffic in response to that Johnny Weir post, I'm gonna try something a little different. And this is a very good kind of different. Sorry for being such a skank. :)

Pontiac Stinger = An Ugly Place to Hoard Shit

"
A colorful place to cram useless shit" is the best way to describe this modern marvel concept car from 1989! Who knows, maybe it'll come back, day-glo green is unfortunately infiltrating mainstream society again as we speak.

Christopher Kane Fall 2009

fashionologie has the scoop on the new Christopher Kane show. Kane is easily one of the top three designers in London right now, along with Giles Deacon and...a third, rotating member (Louise Goldin maybe?). This show is faaaaar better than his crack-whack Planet of the Apes meets The Flintstones collection from last season.

It's Fashion Week!

New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and there are a few designers you definitely need to look for. Altuzarra, Hester, and Cushnie et Ochs are getting the biggest buzz, while Bibhu Mohapatra (styled by Lauren Santo Domingo) and Hutson (from the duo behind Obedient Sons & Daughters) are also on my radar. Ohne Titel and Yigal Azrouël (who had Ashley Dupre in the front row, totally unbeknownst to him) are finally coming into their own, but neither has hit the big-time quite like Anna Wintour fave Alexander Wang. More to come!

The Stranger Eats at Denny's

Morning in America - Restaurants - The Stranger, Seattle's Only Newspaper: "The Great Grand-Slam Giveaway may not have hit its target market—the would-be Applebee's customer, tightening the proverbial if not the actual belt—but it created exorbitant goodwill among high schoolers, stoners, and the homeless (and, probably especially, combinations thereof)."

A perfect description of all that was the free Denny's breakfast.

Michelle Obama + Vogue = Best. Cover. EVER.

EDIT: Cover leaked!!!

The pictures haven't leaked yet, but the Washington Post has finally confirmed that Michelle Obama will indeed be on the grand March issue of Vogue, as just about everybody had predicted. She wears Jason Wu on the cover (of course) and Narciso Rodriguez in side (no surprise there) and was shot by Annie Leibovitz (naturally). Andre Leon Talley wrote the article (though who really reads anything he writes?). Can't freaking wait for the photos to leak.

Gabriel Chytry is gorgeous. He just is. And somebody should do something to take advantage of that. Like booking him for a modeling gig. You have my blessing.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona = Gorgeous

Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Woody Allen's latest Scarlett Johansson showcase, is definitely worth watching, especially now in the doldrums of winter. The lens is sensuously washed in seductive shades of saffron, reflecting the delicious golden haze of the Spanish summer sun. This works only to enhance the undeniable beauty of Pénelope Cruz, so sultry and sumptuous, despite her role as a woman constantly on the verge of meltdown. Sonia Grande's costumes sing of chic summer ease, featherweight and flowing against the body with every breeze, invoking envy in anyone stuck in Midwestern winter hell. Allen, in highlighting Barcelona's typical but still stunning Gaudí and Miró, as well as the quieter beauty of the countryside and other overlooked sites, has found a new city to which he can write a love song. Everything about the film made me yearn for a vacation. Damn you, Woody Allen. Damn you.

David Beckham - Fugly + French = Yoann Gourcuff

I don't care for David Beckham. He's just not terribly attractive in the face in the way so many other folks are. He's just gross. But Yoann Gourcuff! Oh my! Purely delectable. Extremely attractive. Oh, so wonderfully French. Drool.

Jason Wu Trunk Show at Seattle Nordstrom

Even if Jason Wu isn't reproducing Michelle Obama's inaugural gown, he still has a whole assortment of gorgeous gowns just waiting to be loved. Next Wednesday, at the flagship Nordstrom in downtown Seattle, there's going to be a Jason Wu trunk show on 2. While this has been planned for quite some time now, there really couldn't have been better timing for the event. It's especially surprising considering that the other designers on the Seattle Nordstrom trunk show schedule are Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, and Akris, none of which are up-and-coming designers in the slightest.

Here's the info from nordstrom.com:
Jason Wu Trunk Show
Wednesday, January 28, 11am - 3pm
Downtown Seattle
Seattle, WA 98101
In Collectors, Level 2. For more information or to RSVP, please call (206) 628-2111, ext. 1445.

Jimmy Choo 'Seattle' Sandal

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Jimmy Choo heels, mostly because they just seem to lack the personality of some other brands like Christian Louboutin and Nicholas Kirkwood. But when a woman needs versatile, dependable, gorgeous heels, Jimmy Choos do fit the bill. These Jimmy Choo 'Seattle' Sandals, available at Nordstrom for $785, are made with criss-cross straps of coated canvas with leather backing, heel, and lining. Maybe they're named after Seattle because of the new Jimmy Choo store opening in Bellevue at The Bravern in September, or maybe because coated canvas sandals seems like a natural fit for Seattle (only in the summer...). In any case, I think they're rather lovely and would go well with a multitude of outfits, so if you have that kind of cash sitting around, by all means go for it. Get them here.

Michelle Obama's Jason Wu Inauguration Gown

Jason Wu designed an unbelievable, deliciously ethereal chiffon gown for Michelle Obama to wear to the Inauguration last night. Simply spectacular, and unquestionably just about the biggest boost to his company that anybody could ever imagine. It's like Barack and his Blackberry, money can't buy a better advertisement!

The Bravern + Bellevue Square + Downtown Seattle = A Shopping Trek

Now that Ferragamo is opening a shop at The Bravern, the retail lineup there looks like this:

- Neiman Marcus
- Hermès
- Jimmy Choo
- Bottega Veneta
- Louis Vuitton
- Salvatore Ferragamo
- Tory Burch
- LTJ Arthur
- Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa
- Sur La Table
- Silberman/Brown
- Eye Society
- Dilettante Mocha Café
- David Barton Gym
- Wild Ginger
- John Howie Steak

Am I missing anything?

In any case, this further decentralizes high-end shopping in the Seattle metropolitan area. Bellevue Square has a Nordstrom with the designer assortment (including shop-in-shops for Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Gucci RTW, Fendi, Gucci, and Prada handbags, and David Yurman jewelry), plus Burberry, Movado, and Tiffany & Co. Pacific Place has Barneys New York, Cartier, Tiffany & Co., MaxMara, and the flagship Nordstrom across the street (which has shop-in-shops for Chanel, YSL, Dolce & Gabbana, and Gucci RTW, and more for accessories I won't list). Further down, near 5th & University, there are shops for Gucci, St. John, and Louis Vuitton. It's all kind of a headache if you wanna go from Seattle to Bellevue or vice-versa, but I'm guessing only hardcore shoppers would ever consider traipsing across 520 to do that. I'm just worried this is going to leave each shopping area with less foot traffic than they would want, considering walking from the Bravern to Bellevue Square seems like quite the trek. I know in cities like Boston, between Copley Place, Newbury Street, and Natick Collection, there's a lot going on in in different places, and for the moment they seem to be doing fine. We'll see this September I guess.

Jennifer Connelly = More Stylish Than You.

Jennifer Connelly is one of the most unbelievably stylish people in the world, due in no small part to the fact that she can put ANYTHING on and make it work. Even if it's fug, her face takes all the attention. Everything from Balenciaga to McQueen to Givenchy to Balenciaga again are all perfection on her. It doesn't hurt that she's good friends of Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière, who cast her in an ad campaign last year. Gorgeous.

Hot Jew - Shirt = Happy Hanukkah!

What better way to celebrate the start of Hanukkah than with this guy, some model from Israel named Guy. I think. That part is pretty much irrelevant. I won't make any jokes about him lasting for eight days and seven nights. I'll just keep that all inside my head.

Dior Homme + Sneakers = Freaking Amazing

If you somehow end up with an extra $525 this Christmas on sneakers (all...one or two of you...), then there are no better sneakers than these Dior Homme leathers sneakers with mesh and metallic detail. I suspect Kanye West already owns a pair of these.

Ryan Lochte + Calvin Klein = Best Underwear Ads Since 2008

These aren't them. Ryan Lochte's surely exceptional Calvin Klein Underwear ads don't come until next year, but the first pic is from his modeling portfolio. He looks quite amazing with his hair slicked back. The rest are from January's GQ, and sweet lordy are they great. I don't care what the hell they're supposed to be selling there. I'm sold.

Did I Mention That You Should Be Watching 'Chuck'?

Now that's a good reason to watch. Go, Zachary Levi, go!

The Sunday Drivers - On My Mind

A great Spanish band called The Sunday Drivers and their song "On My Mind." Enjoy!

Michiel Huisman - Shirt = Dutch Romantic Comedy?

I have no idea what's going on in this photo, and I don't even know for sure whether this movie is actually a romantic comedy, but I suppose it's called Phileine zegt sorry, which isn't actually the point. The point is that Michiel Huisman is shirtless in it, so to anybody from the Netherlands who would like to explain, in pictures or screencaps or otherwise, that would be greatly appreciated. Now if only Americans would replace Matthew McConaughey with this guy, we'd be all set.

JOIN GILT!

Seriously, it's really awesome. Right now there's a sale on Marc by Marc Jacobs for men, and I just got a really awesome sweatshirt for more than $100 off. For women, they have stuff like Zac Posen, Milly, Alexander McQueen, Boy by Band of Outsiders, and the like. It's really, really, awesome.

Things People Want for Christmas - Part II

1 - Filson Tote Bag with Zipper
For quite some time now, the tote bag has slowly been replacing the messenger bag as the handsome option for men to haul their stuff. Who better than Filson, the Seattle-based maker of extremely masculine hunting gear, to make a tote bag that just won't quit? Attractive in tan, and available in otter green as well. But I suggest you stick to tan.
Available from Filson or Steven Alan for $130.

2 - A.P.C. New Standard in Raw Indigo in Raw Indigo
For the denim equivalent of the Filson tote, it's hard to beat A.P.C.'s most-beloved classic. Stiff as a board and completely raw to start, these jeans will eventually break down exactly the way you want them to. Just give it a few months, and you'll easily have the best pair of jeans in your closet. Also goes well with everything I've listed here so far. The price recently went up from $140 to $155, so might as well get them before the price goes up again.

3 -Shipley & Halmos Whitman Sport Shirt - White
A guy will need a nice white shirt to match his new jeans, shoes, and pullover, so why not get something new and quietly amazing like this Shipley & Halmos take on the classic? It's cut well, and it's on sale at Barneys for $69.

Things People Want for Christmas - Part I

And by people, I mean me, or anybody else who happens to have the same taste as me. Here's a short list for now:
1 - Bed Stu Stentorian Oxford
Urban Outfitter has this incredibly attractive shoe. Black is fine and all, but a beautiful shade of grey is a surprisingly effective perfect antidote to a drab, grey sky. Add something as simple as dark, slim, straight-leg jeans and a nice, crisp, white shirt, and you have yourself a winning combination. Not bad at all for $78!
2 - A.P.C. Narrow Tunisian Pullover
Navy blue and light beige, cotton-cashmere blend, buttoned placket, lovely stripes. On sale for $133, if they have any left. Actually, anything from A.P.C. is pretty much a worthwhile choice. Plus, they're having a sale right now!
